No Complaining Policy

For the past few weeks, I've been trying out something new which is to not complain about my workload. Everyone who has a friend or family member doing architecture will know how much the course demands from us, both physically and mentally.

I'll try to diffuse the notion that we only design things. In fact, we do design things with a particular reason. We also write essays and we also need to have technical knowledge. So no, it's not just only designing things and making things pretty.

Anyway, this No Complain policy of mine started when I opened Instagram and saw so many posts from everyone announcing to the world how busy they are with uni, photos of them studying, complaining how they have no life etc etc etc. Then my friends start to complain to me about their heavy workload and how hard the syllabus is.

It's like everyone is trying to make it appear that their life is really difficult.

Because let's face it honey, if your work is so difficult and busy, you won't have time to take photos when you're doing work and post it on Instagram with your two page essay of a caption and later take trips to the city to shop at Forever 21, oh no you don't (Note: I had a black's accent in mind as I was writing this)

Then it occurred to me. Even if we complain about our work, it's not going to lessen. Work will still need to be done, things still need to be submitted. We still don't win.

So, I thought, hey, why not I stop telling people how busy being a student is because every student already knows that. Heck, every student and working person, parents etc. knows that.

And you know what? It feels quite good. I channel more of my energy thinking about my work, less about hating that it needs long hours, I have more time to be a friend and listen to my friends' concerns and I find that I take things with a lighter heart and mind. That's a fair trade for me.

More doing, Less Complaining :)
